Designing a Magazine

Part 1: Design Research

It is my first time designing Magazine, therefore I tried to refer some of the examples from Issuu. The examples I referred to are Practical Photography, Lomography, and other types of Magazines such as Fashion, Interior Design, Sports in order to grab some ideas about the arrangement of layouts with the combination of images and content.  

Part 2: Ideas and Concepts

Sketches

Theme: Classic

Color: White as it looks clean

Font: Poplar Standard (Logo), Gill Sans MT (Content), KGPrimary (Headline), Poorich (Page Title) 

Part 3: Crafting

 Placed a background (File>Place) and separated the page into three parts.

Placed the content images.

 Fit it to a column and centralize in at third line. 

 Inserted the content photos. 

Added in some effect (Object>Effect>Drop Shadow and Outer Glow)

P.S The placement of content photos is designed to place on bottom (principles of design-flow)

 Added texts to describe the images (Type>Font>Gill Sans MT)

Inserted the logo at the top-right side. 
Enlarged the logo to fit in 2 columns space. 

Insert the background and page number for each page at head of any other design as it will set a reminder to leave some space for the content. 
Set 4 columns for this magazine as magazine should looks more relax and space compare to newspaper. 

Inserted the editor's photo, signature, position and content as well. 

Adjusted some spacing in between the Editor’s photo and title (approximate 0.5cm). 
Leave some space in between the headline, content and signature. 

Inserted the content photos and placed at the same row. 
Added title, line and pages number. 

Inserted team members’ name as well as their email address. 

These pages were interrelated together with total number of 6 columns. 
Draw the dot line to make distinguish.

Inserted the NEWS photos and then type in summary of the news.

P.S Each photos and content are in the same line as the opposite. 

Added list number and one of the monthly popular photos will be placed on top and in the middle of both pages. 

Inserted the popular photos of the month. 

Inserted each photographer’s name at the corner of their photos respectively. 

Inserted numbers together with each of their description. 

Inserted the photos at the side with parallel line. 

Fit the photos, title and content within the next three columns.  

Placed advertisement in the last page.
